Safety Advice

I think I can smell gas. What should I do?
Call the Gas Emergency Services on 0800 111 999.
Call: Gas Emergency Services

Turn off you gas supply at the meter. You can do this by turning Emergency Control Valve a quarter turn. This is often outside in a meter box, under the kitchen sink, under the stairs or in the garage.

Open all doors and windows (if electric, do these manually) and put out any naked flames, e.g hob. Do not strike any matches, smoke or turn electrical  switches on or off. Go outside of your property and keep people away from the affected area.

Carbon monoxide is an odourless. colourless gas which can be fatal if you are exposed to it. Fitting a carbon monoxide alarm can provide an early warning side if something is wrong. but should not be used as an alternative to getting your boiler regularly serviced.

My Pressure Release Valve is leaking. What should I do?

The RPV is a key safety feature that indicates when the water pressure rises higher than the boiler can cope with. If you see and dripping coming from the RPV contact us today. The process to stop the dripping should be simple, but it is important to do quickly.

Boilers/Radiators

Should I change my back boiler?
If you have a back boilers fitted behind a wall and fireplace it is likely to be very inefficient as a lot of the heat is lost up the chimney. So yes, we would recommend for it to be replaced.

What controls can I have with my boiler?
Basic boiler controls can adjust the temperature and timings of your heating. There are also more sophisticated controls which can fine-tune temperature by room. Speak to one of our boiler specialists to see what controls are available for you.

Why do I need radiators with Thermostatic Radiator Valves?
TRV's allow you to adjust the temperature of each room by regulating the hot water in each radiator. Meaning if you have rooms you are not using, you can set the TRV for low-temperature frost protection without heating the room.

Does my system need flushing before fitting a new boiler?
We recommend that this should be done before installing a new boiler as it clears out any sludge that has built up. This sludge could reduce the efficiency of your new boiler or cause damage if it's not cleared out.

Should I have a filter installed?
It is sensible to install a filter into your system as it can help to prevent a sludge build up, which would cause your system to run inefficiently. One of our expert engineers can advise on which filter is best for your system.

Can my water pressure be too low?
Yes, combi and system boilers need a minimum water pressure to work effectively. Low pressure may be caused by small leaks in the system, and while the low pressure is easy to solve by topping up the system, it is vital that these leaks are found and fixed. If you are unsure, always ask one of our installers to check the pressure for you.

Do my radiators need bleeding?
If your radiators do not heat up, or only at the bottom but not the top, it suggests there is air trapped in the radiator. You can easily bleed a radiator yourself, and doing so regularly will solve this problem. Using a radiator key, open the valve slowly until you can hear air escaping. When all the air has been released water will start to come out, so stay close by with a towel. This is the time to close the valve and move on to the next radiator. If you are unsure contact us.

How do I know if my boiler needs a service?
To fit with UK safety regulations your boiler must be serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer each year. If you think anything has changed with your boiler and doesn't seem right, contact us and one of our expert engineers will see it it needs a service.
